De grote ijsvogelvlinder (Limenitis populi) is sinds 1957 uitgestorven in Vlaanderen. Hij is wel nog op enkele plaatsen in Wallonië te vinden. Ik mag er niet aan denken hoeveel mooie exemplaren al verdwenen zijn of nog zullen verdwijnen binnen afzienbare tijd. Het enige wat ik kan doen is ze vereeuwigen door ze te schilderen.
The Poplar Admiral (Limenitis populi) has disappeared from Flanders since 1957. He is still found in some places in Wallonia. I can't bear to think of how many beautiful species have disappeared or will disappear within the not too distant future. The only thing I can do is eternalize them by painting them.
