I started drawing various borders to use in a commissioned piece of work. After that, I completed the design with - again -some beetles. I 'd never actually drawn them in black and white and think they are successful. I added a short phrase and a block of text with a list of extinct insects. The left page had to correspond in subject with the right one. First I drew the large beetle as you sometimes see them in old school prints, and then a text on scientific name giving, a drawing of 'the circle of life' and some poetic gems completed the final layout.

Here are some details from a book about the French 'Musée du Sel' (the Museum of Salt). I've never been there but saw a picture of this conspicuous sign. That was a reason to create a new booklet, which further has nothing to do with the Musée. You see: everything can inspire!
Detail of a sold piece (2008) with a wonderful poem by a Flemish poet. And, of course, the inevitable beetles!
Detail from a concertina book from 2001. The second booklet ever. I had just started to learn the Turkish language. At the bottom some Turkish words: it's always easier to remember when you write it down. That's what I do today with Spanish.
