For those who don't speak Dutch: this is a short text, written by a wonderful Flemish writer. I'm really sorry, but I don't venture to translate this in English because I wouldn't do justice to it.

Whistling wind, cracking branches, sodden streets and gray skies. Beautiful poems but I'm yearning for a new spring. I have been working very hard these past few weeks, have finished a commission of tiny bugs and butterflies and they're ready to find their new owners.

14 years ago I made this try-out of gouache and pen & ink on different types of paper and fixed them with embroidery thread. This goes back to the time I absolutely wanted to combine calligraphy and embroidery. It never came to anything up till now, can still happen...

Hand colored linocut illustration on a greeting card out of my card collection: "enjoy the everyday things!"
Linocut is a print design technique that's similar to woodcut printing, but using a piece of linoleum instead of wood. Essentially, you cut away the parts of linoleum where you want to leave the white of the page, and keep the parts you want to be inked. The linoleum is then inked with a roller to create the print.

Detail of concertina booklet n° 8. I think I'm almost at my 50th one! I started in 2001, so that makes it 15 years of sustained bookmaking!

In 2009 I stayed in the south of France for one week. I was there to help some friends who were renovating an old convent/boarding school into a B&B. Of these memories I made another booklet. I painted the old house plaque above the front door. And you also see some beetles and a mosquito (there were too many of them). And two butterflies of which I exchanged the names accidentally hence I put a little asterisk, and, at the bottom of the page, a rectification in French. There's also a short reporting of my stay there and some history about the village of Parisot.

I started drawing various borders to use in a commissioned piece of work. After that, I completed the design with - again -some beetles. I 'd never actually drawn them in black and white and think they are successful. I added a short phrase and a block of text with a list of extinct insects. The left page had to correspond in subject with the right one. First I drew the large beetle as you sometimes see them in old school prints, and then a text on scientific name giving, a drawing of 'the circle of life' and some poetic gems completed the final layout.

Here are some details from a book about the French 'Musée du Sel' (the Museum of Salt). I've never been there but saw a picture of this conspicuous sign. That was a reason to create a new booklet, which further has nothing to do with the Musée. You see: everything can inspire!

This beautiful old Italian phrase literally means: 'mackerel sky, buckets of water' or 'a mackerel sky is never long dry'.
