These are the three parts of a concertina book that I made in 2012. I used gouache, pen & ink and coloured pencil. And of course those cheery primary colours that make us remind of the coloured pencil boxes of our childhood.

I'm immersing myself in typography of the beginning of the 20th century. Particularly lettering from the Art Deco period fascinates me. Meanwhile, I'm also preparing a calligraphy class on this topic for next year: that will be fun!

No white Christmas this year. This picture, taken many years ago, makes me dream. So fairylike can winter be, even here. Quickly we forget.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas. No snow this year, but warmth outside and in our hearts!
And ... gratefulness to my family: you are my best Christmas present!

This drawing dates from a few years ago and had fallen into oblivion. I'm not at all happy with the sketch of the text. Lettering is too heavy in comparison with the drawing. Early next year, after New Year receptions, I hope to finish the whole.

Philip Poole, London's favorite purveyor of pens had to close doors in 1989. The rent of his shop tripled. With him went another little piece of England.  Poole has sold pens all over the world for 56 years. I'm sure he's still be missed. I am lucky to own 7 small boxes, each one filled with 100 different pens. Indeed, no two pens are the same!

Illustratoren boeien mij mateloos.

In recent years, Flemish illustrators are very sought-after in the US, particularly by the New York Times. The quality of their work  also is praised by publishers of children's books. This is something to be very proud of.  I will share some names in later blogs. Apart from them, there are a whole series of illustrators from over the world that I like a lot:
