The castle d'Ursel in Hingene (Belgium)  for centuries was the residence of the noble family d'Ursel. Since 1994, the building is owned by the Province of Antwerp and has a cultural destination. In 1877, two young countesses hid a letter behind the wallpaper in their castle. The same for some craftsmen who put their name, a text or a picture on the wall. For centuries, these were hidden behind dozens of cotton wall hangings, but they emerged during restoration. Meanwhile, the wall coverings are ready to restore.

But first it's up to you. Immortalise yourself and put a message on the wall. Your life motto, favorite quote, a self-written poem, a memory or a prediction, a philosophical idea or a declaration of love: everything is possible.Together with texts of writers and poets, calligrapher Brody Neuenschwander will write your message on the wall. Afterwards they'll be hidden behind the wallpaper and within 10, 25, 50 and 100 years we will reveal them again.

Do you also want to send a message to future generations? Write, and stay. Forever in the castle.

Some oldies. How time flies: 10 years ago I painted this Whippet dog, using gouache. Nowadays I more and more use watercolor because it is much easier to work in layers and build up shades. Still, in some cases, gouache looks very well, as it does here. You get a velvety effect that you can't achieve with watercolor.

In these gloomy days I think back with nostalgia to our trip to the sunny South of France,
two years ago.

In 2008, this photo appeared in the renowned American magazine "Letter Arts Review." You can see some of my handwritten books. Since then, I've made more than 50. They're all the same size: 75 cm wide, folded in three, and 14 cm high. They can deal with a specific topic or not. Sometimes the connection is a color, a type, but there's always the combination of lettering and illustration. And of course a great attention goes to layout. Occasionally I will post others, old and newer ones.

Last summer, I was teaching a workshop in Bruges, more specifically in the 'European Lettering Institute', guided by Lieve Cornil and her team. The group of participants consisted of Americans, two people from Finland and a lady from Paris. It was a blissful workshop on a nice location where we all were being pampered. I was then asked by a Finnish student for an interview for their calligraphy magazine. Last week I received the magazine and I must say it looks great with a neat layout.

One of my concertina books from 2008. It's about the sea, wind and seagulls, cats, and illustrations in "The Grete Herball", an English medieval herb book from 1525. As you see, no link between the different topics. The only link is the use of color: black, shades of grey and Venetian red.

Long ago, back into 2001, I first started my concertina books. At that time they were a kind of test books where I tried out different scripts, pens, inks, paints, and papers that I wanted to use in my bigger work for exhibitions. In this way I could pick out the elements that I liked and were interesting enough to use.

One of my very first attemptsof writing gothic, many years ago. It's still quite clumsy but the whole is interesting I think. The illustration of the flowers was already there and I thought it a good idea to write around it. Afterwards, I completed it with some lines in carolingian minuscule.
